About Us

TRECAN Combustion Limited has been designing and manufacturing portable and stationary snowmelters for over 30 years for airports, parking facilities and municipalities.

Over that time we have developed the expertise and experience to provide standard or custom designed equipment to meet any snow melting requirement.

Our snowmelters possess many attributes but foremost they provide a fast, safe, reliable, cost effective and viable alternative to trucking snow.

Trecan Snowmelters are the most thermally efficient combustion type Snowmelters available (95 – 98 %) due to the submerged combustion direct contact method of heating and transferring the energy from the combustion flue gas to the water and snow in the melting tank. With over 35 years of engineering, manufacturing and practical experience dealing with Snowmelters, Trecan Snowmelters are the most reliable machines available.

In 2002 Trecan Combustion became the only Snowmelter manufacturer in the world to obtain the ISO 9001:2000 certification, ISO's most widely known standard. ISO 9001:2000 has become an international reference for quality assurance requirements in business-to-business dealings all over the world. ISO 9001:2000 primarily ensures that our products or services satisfy the customer's quality requirements. What does it all mean? Having completed the ISO 9001:2000 registration, Trecan Combustion has ensured their customers that a strict quality assurance program has been formed and implemented. ISO Registered companies have had dramatic reductions in customer complaints, significant reductions in operating costs and increased demand for their products and services. ISO Registration is simply good business. With a reputation built on quality, integrity, experience and repeat customer referrals, Trecan Combustion is the most trusted Snowmelter manufacturer in North America. Trecan is the only Snowmelter manufacturer that can produce and distribute a customer referral list which is available to anyone, and that in itself speaks volumes about the company’s reputation. Experience counts; we have it!

Many of the largest and most populated cities and municipalities in North America use Trecan Snowmelters. The City of Toronto in Ontario has several Trecan Snowmelters and the City of New York has 10 Trecan 60-PD Snowmelters. Many Universities and Hospitals through North America also use Trecan Snowmelters. Most of the largest and busiest airports in North America use Trecan Snowmelters, including: the Pearson International Airport in Ontario, the Manchester Airport in New Hampshire, the Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts, the Minneapolis - St. Paul International Airport in Minnesota, the JFK International Airport and the La Guardia International Airport in New York / New Jersey.

The Trecan Research and Development Division are currently working on a new 10 ton per hour portable skidor trailer mounted snowmelter that is expected to be available in 2008. The 2008 model of 60-PD & 80-PD snowmelter has a new and improved design including a full engine room enclosure and a sleek and efficient body design. Our unique Metro Melters that were custom built for the City of Toronto in the early 1970’s are still in operation today. Trecan built five of the 150 ton/hr mobile snowmelters, most of which still operate today.

Trecan Combustion also designs and manufactures other industrial combustion equipment such as; Solid Waste Incinerators, Liquid Waste Incinerators, Waste Gas & VOC Fume systems, Industrial Burners, Direct Fired Air Heaters, Process Hot Water Heaters, Inert Gas Generators and Cryogenic Vaporizers.

Most recently Trecan Combustion designed, manufactured and delivered an Industrial Hot Water Heater to Fort Hills Energy (Petro-Canada, UTS Energy Corp, Tech Cominco) in the Fort Hills area of the Alberta Oil Sands. It provided 60 million BTU’s per hour of heat that was used for the extraction and separation process to separate the bitumen from the clay, sand, and water that make up the tar sands. Our Industrial hot water heaters are far more economical and efficient than boiler systems and they can use recycled water from the extraction process there by eliminating the requirement of an on site water treatment plant.
